Your First Massage: What to Expect

If you’ve never had a massage before, you might be wondering what happens during a session. The good news is that it’s very simple and designed to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Getting Ready

Your massage therapist will step out of the room so you can get comfortable on the table.

Typically just about all clothing is removed. Many people leave underwear on, some take it off. I find that with first timers, they feel more comfortable with them on so I instruct them to leave them on. Back massage has a much better flow when the bra is removed, but leaving it on is perfectly acceptable as well. Essentially, you can leave any clothing you’d like on if it’s more comfortable for you. Massage compressions can still be done over those areas (if consented to)

However it is you choose to undress, you will get UNDER the sheet and blanket on the massage table before your therapist returns so that you’re all covered up :)

What Stays Covered

You will always be professionally draped during your massage.

This means:

  • Only the area being worked on is uncovered

  • The rest of your body remains covered with the sheet and blanket

  • Private areas are ALWAYS covered

Your comfort and privacy are a top priority.

During the Massage

Your therapist will use massage techniques to help relax muscles and relieve tension. If at any time you would like more or less pressure, feel free to speak up at any time. I do check in after about 15 minutes to make sure I’m using a pressure that you are enjoying.

Many people relax pretty deeply during their session, and some even fall asleep which is perfectly normal.

After effects

Massage is meant to help your body relax, reduce tension, and support overall wellness. Your session is always tailored to what feels best for you. Some soreness is totally normal if you’ve never had bodywork. Drink lots of water and keep your body moving!
